Dictation is the core drill. Work through one clip at a time and finish all six steps before moving on.
- 1. Listen generally — circle the main topic
First play the clip straight through without writing. Just decide what the whole thing is about: who is speaking, where they are, and the main topic. Circle it in your notes.
- 2. Fill out the key information (dictation, 3 passes)
Now write down what you hear, sentence by sentence. 1st time: try to catch all the content words (nouns, verbs, adjectives, numbers). 2nd time: list both the content words and the conjunction words (but, so, because, although, then). 3rd time: double-check what you wrote.
- 3. Listen to the entire audio and check what is missing
Play the whole clip again and compare with your notes. Any spelling errors go straight into your Word Bank. Any information you missed — replay that part again and again until you can hear it.
- 4. Shadowing at 0.8× speed
Open the Script and read aloud together with the voice at 0.8 speed. Copy the rhythm, the pauses, and the linking sounds. This trains your ear and your pronunciation at the same time.
- 5. Listen generally again and answer the questions
Play once more at normal speed, then answer the questions and Submit. Read every explanation — especially for the ones you guessed.
- 6. Come back after two days at 1.2× speed
Two days later, listen to the same clip again at 1.2 times speed. If you still understand it easily, the clip is finished. If not, repeat the dictation in step 2.
- •Never look at the script before your dictation — that turns listening practice into reading practice.
- •Content words carry the meaning; conjunction words (but, so, because) carry the answer. Catch both.
- •Every spelling mistake from dictation belongs in the Vocab Bank, not in your head.
- •Missed answers usually come from paraphrase: the audio says 'I'm not free', the option says 'She is busy'.
